Coorg

Coorg (Kodagu) is Karnataka's coffee-growing hill country, a quieter, greener alternative to Kerala's tea hills, with working coffee and spice plantations spread across misty ridgelines.

It's known locally for its distinct culture and cuisine, and for travellers it offers an easy, low-key stretch of walks, waterfalls and plantation stays — a good counterpoint to a more temple- or heritage-heavy South India route.

Highlights

  • Working coffee and spice plantation visits and stays
  • Abbey Falls and other short waterfall walks
  • Distinct local Kodava culture and cuisine
  • Quiet, mist-covered ridgeline scenery

Best Time to Visit

October to March for clear views; the monsoon (June–September) is very lush but wet.

Getting There

A 5–5.5 hour drive from Bangalore, or 2.5–3 hours from Mysore, usually the final hill stop on a Karnataka route.
