The GhatsVaranasi's ghats — nearly 90 stone stairways descending to the Ganges — are the city's defining feature, and a sunrise boat ride past them is the classic first experience: bathers, priests, laundry workers and pilgrims all going about a rhythm that's continued for centuries.
Each ghat has its own character and history, from the cremation ghats where funeral rites are conducted continuously, to the bathing ghats busy with morning ritual, and we guide guests through which to observe from a respectful distance.

Central to Varanasi's old city, reached on foot or by a short rickshaw ride from most hotels.
